Writer, activist, trained in sociology, Peggy Pierrot considers journalism, publishing, writing, radio as necessary tools to make audible speeches of society silenced groups and individuals. In addition to her work of research and re-reading of the dominant history, she is also committed to the field, working with communities.

As the next resident of Méthode Room in Chicago she will collaborate with different institutions, including Dusable Museum, Hyde Park Art Center, Expo Chicago, Experimental Station and Temporary Service publishers. Through the exhibition of her own references, but also workshops, lectures, screenings, interviews and radio programs, Peggy Pierrot will question and exhume histories from the black Atlantic, inviting local populations to participate actively in her researches.

Peggy Pierrot has personal, biographical and affective links to Chicago that will be the ground of her 3 months research during her residency there. From that specific position, she will develop a multiform writing project based on accompany silenced ones on their way to reclaim their own voices loudness. In other words, she will dig in the social history of Chicago but also her personal biography to open a dialogue with both living and dead people, such as War soldiers, OBAC or union leaders, slaves, french jacobins, Chicago musicians, political activists, writers, victims of Police violence, as well as her own ancestors linked in French colonial history.

Between literature, sociology, art and culture, this project aims to be embedded into Chicago’s context.

Based in her own singular journey, expressed through family visual and public archives, she will undertake a research that will be the basis of future writing projects.
